Oh No!

Okay, so, I moved to a new server a few weeks back. However I lost the nulldigital database backups! It's probable that I just forgot to do a backup before moving.

Heres the story. After the move I changed the domain to point to the new IP. Which has the draw back in that I lost the IP of the previous server. With a week and a bit to go before the old server dropped off the internet I thought I'd be fine. Plenty of time to get a fresh backup. I told myself I'd find Cyrus (the kind gentleman who donated hosting for my sites) and ask him for the new IP.

Disaster struck!

Cyrus has been away for nearly 30 days now and I haven't heard a word for him. Doh! So the old database went down with the old server I fear. I have some older backups, from back in January (which is what I'm not using).

I know I should be backing up more regularly but since this site was becoming defunct for me now I figure I wouldnt need them, and to be honest I'm not all that upset about losing the data. The important posts were in the backup so thats all that matters.

Nevermind eh?

Anyway very soon my new site will be starting up, which hopefully with become a lot more active than this one ever was!

Its a very good read

as soon as you divide people into two categories -- ­more trusted and less trusted people -- ­you create a third, and very dangerous, category: untrustworthy people whom we have no reason to mistrust. Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh; the Washington, DC, snipers; the London subway bombers; and many of the 9/11 terrorists had no previous links to terrorism. Evildoers can also steal the identity -- ­and profile -- ­of an honest person. Profiling can result in less security by giving certain people an easy way to skirt security.

As Schneier is again spot on with this excellent breakdown of the security risks associated with overly trusted ID schemes.
