About me

So here I guess I best write stuff about me. Well I live in the midlands of the United Kingdom. I attend Coventry University where I study Software Engineering BSc. I am about to enter the second year of this course.

I am a computer geek. I love working with computers. I run a variety of systems for different purposes and different operating systems. My preference is Linux. Which I run 4 Linux systems and administrate others. My preference in desktop linux distribution is Debian, but at the moment I appear to run Ubuntu on my desktop, and am hesitant to change back to Debian as I have everything nicely set. I use Openbox as my main Windows manager. <3

I am involved with coder groups. I am a huge advocate of IRC. Whilst the protocol has a few minor flaws its still one of the best mediums to meet, talk to fellow geeks; get help, and help others. I am occasionally found floating around my own network, irc.nullnetwork.net. I'm also regulary connected to freenode under the nick linkd (see contact page). Many of you will know me under the nick kay, some will know me as kuuhey or kFraction. Some may even know me by other nicks I've accquired over the years. I can ussually be found using one of 2 clients: xchat or irssi. Both are superb clients and thoroughly recommend.

I'm also growing to be somewhat of a cartoon nerd over time. I watch alot of Southpark, Futurama, Ghost in the shell (anime), The simpsons, and most recently, Full Metal Alchemist. I can watch almost any cartoon that I accidently come across on TV. Provided it assumes an Inteligect of abig more than a 8 year old. Hurrah for simple minded folk.

Aside from cartoons I'm rather a fan of science fiction. I love the X-Files, and I'm fond of Dark city, Screamers, Cypher, The Matrix, Stargate Atlantis/SG1, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly. I am also a fan of what I often refer to as crazy films. Stuff like Fear and loathing in last vegas, Fight club, Vanilla Sky and Battle Royal. Also worth a mention is Sin City, the British TV series Spaced, Hackers, Enermy at the gates, and The Bourne Identity. My favorite film is totally Fight club, for which I am almost religious about.

Speaking of which, I am not religious. There are several relgions which interest me, such as Transhumanism and Buddism. I however do not buy into either of those though I often take lessons for life from these religions.

I am a huge music listener and am rarely without noise around me. I focus on rock, alternative rock, metal rock, hard rock, rock, rock, rock, and occasionally some techno - with hints of rock. Some notable bands include Paradise lost, Disturbed, Machinae Supremacy, Funeral for a friend, Avenged Sevenfold, Harry, In Flames, Millencolin, Samiam, Stabbing Westward, Zeromancer, Garbage, and many many more. I enjoy going out to gigs but I only go to big gigs once in a while. I see lots of local and indepentant bands every couple weeks.

Last big name gigs I went to that offhand I can remember.

Stuff I would like to see later this year.

For my daily web viewings there are several browsers I may be found using, Firefox, Opera, w3m, Lynx, or even rarer, Internet explorer. The latter of which really is rare, and is ussually when I'm testing sites or when I want to play with an IE vulnerability, or even test out IE7. Which by the way I disliked for a range of reasons. Most obvious is that its seriously ugly and isn't very intuitive from my point of view. I'm never found using Konqueror because I like my Browsers to know their place and not try and take over. My preference in browser choose leads more towards Firefox. I used to use opera on windows alot, but I found that it became rather slow and unresponsive regulary for no appearent reason. At which point I fell back to Firefox.

I'm a big fan of IPTV/Vidcasting. I watch several shows on a regular basis, including hak.5 which is most entertaining, LynchLand which may take a certain type of random mind to follow, and others

I'm a large supporter of Open Source and Free software. I often use the GPL license on programs I write. I also believe similar Licenses such as the Creative Commons License are of crucial importance in keeping technology free, and encouraging innovation in both creative and technical fields blosom.

I know a large list of languages including, but not limited to, C/C++, php, Python, Assembly, Visual Basic, haskell and find it to be one of the most interesting languages I have ever used. I'm most frequently seen using C, php or Python. These languages provide me with all the flexibility I need on several platforms and applications.

I have an amateur interest in photography, and I really want a professional digital camera. I own and am a novice with a traditional pro camera but because I'm impatience (and most the things I want to take pictures of I want digitising) it unfortunately rarely gets used.

I really want to do something awesome before I die, something extremely brag worthy, such as develop an ultra efficent database system, or popular network protocol, or even a popular program.
