Ubuntu installer for Windows

Capricous recently brought this to my attention. Installers for windows which will install Ubuntu. Whilst it still puzzles me why he throws a message to me in a comment of an unrelated post, and not an email, I checked it out. :-P

It is indeed a good thing for the Ubuntu project. One of their goals is quiet obviously pull Windows users over to their project. This is great, and is the nature of competition.

I would agree that it's a step forward for Linux in general, but primarily in the aspect of helping to create a larger user base. Which hopefully should lead to a bit more manufacturer support for Linux and force a lot of developers to re-think Linux software development.

I don't think everyone should move over to Linux, I'm not of the position that its 'right' for everyone. I also don't think Linux distros should emulate Windows. If it did, what would be its competitive edge over Windows?

User friendliness is an important goal of *any* software project and this install *is* most certainly a great thing for it's project.

Perly Packety Dissection

I thought I might link my readers to zshzn's Perl Packet Capture Dissection article on nullnetwork.net since he was ever so proud of it.

PacketGarden, useless but purty

Packet Garden looks kinda cute. I haven't managed to run it yet due to failure to locate the python imagining library, then I had to go out, then I got bored. I'll play with it another day.

Looks completely useless though, but useless in an entertaining fashion. Much like some of my housemates. Useless, but entertaining. *Chuckles*

My god, I hope they don't read this.
